Boston, MA. (August 5, 2022) – PayByCar, Inc., the mobile payments startup responsible for providing pay-by-text payments at gas stations across Massachusetts, will be joining the Massachusetts Department of Transportation in a joint effort to inform drivers about a low-touch fuel payment solution at 27 gas stations across the Bay State that can save drivers even more money on gas, now through Labor Day, via the “Driven by E-ZPass™” program developed for the 19-state E-ZPass Group.
PayByCar™, the Massachusetts-based company leading this initiative, allows customers with an E-ZPass transponder to perform contactless payments for gas at participating locations without ever having to touch the pump screen or use cash, credit cards, or mobile apps. To promote this, Alltown® and PayByCar are offering enrollees a 30 cents per gallon discount on gas beginning today at 27 participating locations. This is a limited-time offer for new and existing PayByCar enrollees. A 30 cents per gallon discount will be applied to a maximum of 20 gallons of fuel per visit for up to 5 visits at participating Alltown locations in Massachusetts. This offer is valid through September 5, 2022.
"MassDOT is always looking for ways to make travel safer and more secure, so we’re pleased this program leverages E-ZPass technology to make refueling faster and easier,” said Jonathan Gulliver, MassDOT’s Highway Administrator. “The ‘Driven by E-ZPass’ pay-by-text payment method is an innovation that continues to show promise and we look forward to the results of the program’s first-in-the-nation deployment here in Massachusetts.”
Gas purchases do not get applied to the customer's toll account. Instead, the gas purchase is charged to the payment card the customer used when enrolling on the PayByCar website www.mypaybycar.com. Drivers without a toll transponder can request PayByCar to provide a free PayByCar Smart sticker, a non-toll RFID tag.
“We understand the financial burden drivers are facing at the pump this summer, which is why we are so excited to offer PayByCar our summer savings discount which is expected to save drivers as much as $6 on gas each time they fill up,” said Kevin Condon, CEO and founder of PayByCar.
PayByCar users simply pay by confirming a text message when they drive into a participating location, without ever having to open their wallet or touch the fuel dispenser keypad. In addition to eliminating multiple points of touching a public surface, the process also cuts transaction time in half.
The Alltown stations currently offering PayByCar are in the following communities: Abington, Ashburnham, Ashland, Billerica, Braintree, Centerville, Concord, Framingham, Leominster, Lowell, Marlborough, Mashpee, Orleans, Raynham, Roxbury, Saugus, Stoughton, Swampscott, Tyngsboro, Warren, Wellesley, Westborough, Westford, Westwood, Wrentham, and Yarmouth.
